It never ceases to amaze me how tragedy is viewed with such, dare I call it, glee by the American media. The terrible events in France are just the latest example of this disgraceful behavior. First, we are completely inundated with so-called breaking news reports that do nothing but repeat themselves over and over with he same information. Then we are subjected to an endless list of so-called "experts" who echo the exact same talking points and ask just as many questions as the airhead hosts they are talking to. After that, the paranoia and fear generation begin in a carefully orchestrated manner to convince gullible people that their trailer park is surely the next target for international terrorists. Sadly, people watch and become captivated by this bullshit that the American media is only too glad to produce. Speculation is the order of the day, intelligent discourse is frowned upon, and the narrative is already written. Just change the location and the story is reusable over and over again. When I was growing up, my parents taught me to be very skeptical of what I was told, especially when everyone says the same thing. A friend of mine made the observation that the easiest way to identify one of these tragedies being used for exploitation was that the crisis got its own theme music. There is a lot of truth in that lighthearted statement. When we hear that sound we know, or should know, that the Bullshit Express is arriving. Anchors almost deliberately trying to instill a sense of fear and panic with every heavily inflected sentence they utter destroy any hope of finding real information. Real answers are even more difficult to come by without completely removing oneself from the media's corruption zone and actually researching the issue ourselves. One last truly disgusting habit of the American media is their arousal with the perpetrators of these crimes. We are subjected to endless photos and interviews and the names of the monsters quickly replace the names of the victims. This sickens me. I don't want to downplay the tragedy that happened in France. I just want the insanity provocations to stop.
